The inseparable connection between the Canary Islands and the nearby African continent is well known. For this reason, there are countless cultural ties between both peoples, as well as a shared geographical identity and similar social values. Africa is the continent of origin of the Berber people who would come to form the aboriginal population of the Canary Islands, and it is also the cradle of the cultural blending between Mediterranean tradition and the colourful, rhythmic wisdom of the African continent.
This cultural idiosyncrasy has therefore been the main source of inspiration for the creation of this poster, relating to a hypothetical African music festival, which was produced during the early years of my career as a graphic illustration designer. The festival would take place in the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and its programme would include some of the most acclaimed groups and solo artists on the African music scene.
This poster is therefore represented by the face of an African woman with dark skin and full red lips, whose blue eyes connect with the contrasting European tradition, all serving as a bridge linking both cultures, as if they were sisters.
