In 2015, I decided to take part once again in the Poster Design Competition for the Carnival of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The main theme of that year’s carnival festivities was “One Thousand and One Nights”, evoking the magical tales of Aladdin and the marvellous lamp of the Genie of the Three Wishes. The latter served as the main source of inspiration for the composition of my promotional poster.
In my design, I allude to a magical lamp from which a genie emerges in the form of a mascarita (a traditional masked carnival figure), as if he had dressed up especially for the event. The whole scene is set in a festive Middle Eastern night, adorned with a crescent moon and a starry sky. Therefore, this charming mascarita can grant the three wishes one desires, so that the participants in these carnival festivities may be as happy as they have always dreamed to be.
